One of the first ever piped water supply systems in the Western Hemisphere originated in Jamaica, in the town of Falmouth, Trelawny. With the Martha Brae River as its source, in 1799 the Falmouth Water Works Company was established, to supply the town of Falmouth and visiting ships (Source: NWC Jamaica). ? IG @jisvoice
The Federation of the West Indies was then formed by the Jamaican government and ten other Caribbean countries in 1958, but was soon dissolved in 1961 when the Jamaican government voted against the Federation. With the Federation now a thing of the past, Jamaica was granted independence from England on August 6, 1962.HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
